A great way to end the summer season with continuous days of sun and temperatures in the 80s. This has been one busy season across the Vineyard. May we have many more days of warmth.
Thank you to producer Gary Foster for inviting us to a screening of his new film Denial at the film center on Thursday. The film stars Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson, and Timothy Spall, and will be released in the U.S. on Sept. 30. The story is based on the book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier by Deborah Lipstadt. Gary and his wife Lisa Foster spent most of the winter in England during the filming and were present on Thursday to graciously greet each of their guests. Following the film, a question and answer time was enjoyed with words of wisdom from Alan Dershowitz.

Thea Akins and her mother Cynthia Vanderhoop Akins are here at their home with brother Doug Vanderhoop and his wife, Linda. In July their daughter, Rachel Thompson, her husband B.J. and their daughters, Jade and Brooklyn, were here for several weeks doing all things Vineyard. Toward the end of July, Linda’s niece, Lareen Secakuku, son and a friend enjoyed a week with the family. Thea and Cynthia had a delicious/informative evening at the Aquinnah Cultural Center fundraiser dinner. They are disappointed that the pageant will not take place. They, too, have been doing all things Aquinnah and Vineyard, eating seafood, walking the beaches picking up wampum shell pieces, attending church and visiting family. Thea returns to her Indian Health Service nurse position in Washington on Sept. 4. Doug and Linda return to Utah Sept. 7. Cynthia, finally retired, is here until the end of September.

It was nice to enjoy an evening swim at the pool with Joan Leibovich, her husband Ted Sutton, her son Larry Leibovich, and especially granddaughter Clara. Grandson Carlos chose to swim at Philbin Beach for the evening. Clara is quite the swimmer despite having a fractured ankle from gymnastics and a cast with a waterproof boot on for the water. We always say, what goes on at the pool stays at the pool.
A note from Theresa Levinson: Felix Krichenbauer, Julia Levinson’s German boyfriend, visited the Levinsons this week and had a great time.

Imagining that Marsha Shufrin would be returning to her position at the Tisbury School, I was surprised to learn that she retired as of August 29 after many years. Marsha and her husband Tom Seeman are anxiously awaiting the birth of their second grandchild.
