Martha’s Vineyard specialty license plates, which benefit Community Services and other Island non-profits, will soon be adorning Vineyard cars.

First-round applicants are receiving letters in the mail with instructions about how to pick the specialty plates up at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

More than 1,000 plates were sold during the initial round of plate sales. Out of 1,007 plates sold, 729 went to Island residents.

The specialty plates will be available to order again through the state RMV at the end of September. More than 3,000 of the license plates need to be sold by August 2021 to make the Martha’s Vineyard plates a permanent option.
