This week was definitely a weather challenge. Are we getting a storm or are we not? Well, it was not a bad storm but people were definitely prepared. It is better to be safe than sorry and people had fun watching the waves at the beach especially at State Beach, where it is always calm. But I am glad that things went well and everyone was safe.

Seeing that it is a new school year I need to get the birthday list from the office, so next week I will post the birthdays.

That was one of the big questions — will there be school or not? But the students all made it to the first day of school and the kids were prepared with new school clothes, books, and supplies they needed as they left some happy parents. Facebook featured loads of pictures of kids on the first day of school and their classes. It was great to see some, but there were others that I thought “what do you mean a freshman, weren’t they just in first grade?” Oh well, time goes by fast.

Tina Polleys and her children Audrey and J.J. had a very adventurous summer. Tina’s wish was to take the kids on a cross-country tour. So they put a camper on their truck and packed up and picked up her Aunt Mary Jane Laverty and off they went.

They went to New Hampshire for a few nights with Sue Polleys and then the adventure started. Their first stop was in Ohio, then on to Nauvoo, Ill., for two Latter Day Saints pageants, which was one of J.J.’s favorites, then on to Mount Rushmore. Other adventures were Craters of the Moon and lava tubes. In Utah they met up with Mary Jane’s daughter Rhonda Dull Young and her family and camped for a few days with them.

They were on to San Diego to visit their cousins Nadirah and Sara, and they swam at Mission Beach. So the saying is that on July 6, J.J.’s birthday, they were swimming in the Atlantic, and by the middle of August they were swimming in the Pacific. Then they headed back to Utah to pick dad Jonathan, who joined them for the trip home.

What an adventure, one I am sure they will talk about for a long time.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
