There are many fears out there — heights, spiders, snapping turtles. But what about the gardener who fears pruning. That’s a mighty tough root to swallow.

Well, Polly Hill Arboretum is coming to the rescue with a pruning class called The Finest Cut: Taking the Fear out of Pruning, and held on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. Horticulturist and arborist Ian Jochems leads the class and will teach techniques such as directional pruning, shrub rejuvenation, and the three-cut method as well as tool maintenance.

Classes are $30 or $20 for arboretum members and will include both in-class demonstrations and some hands-on practice.
