On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum hosts its 15th annual Children’s Memorial Ceremony of Remembrance at the Edgartown Lighthouse.

The memorial was first dedicated in 2001, created by Rick Harrington in memory of his late son, Ricky. Since then, cobblestones have been added to the site each year to remember and honor children who have died. This past year 35 new stones were added, with names of children from across the country. The memorial now holds 732 stones in all.

The annual event is a moment for families and friends to come together in a sacred, beautiful space to spend time together and remember their loved ones through fellowship. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

Stones may be purchased by contacting Betsey Mayhew at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, bmayhew@mvmuseum.org or 508-627-4441.

If a decision to postpone the ceremony is necessary due to weather, there will be a recorded message on the museum phone by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23. The rain date is scheduled for Oct. 1.
