We finally got some well needed rain. However, it was not nearly enough. We need rain because it has been a long time but I don’t want it all at once. I would love to see it rain every night around midnight to 3 a.m. and then it can stop. Not a bad idea huh?

Whoever bet that I would forget the school list won. My hours and the school hours are almost the same, but I will get there. So in the meantime, happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week.

Special birthday wishes go out to Kathy Ivory who will celebrated her day Sept. 27. Here is to many more.

Ellen Blodgett and her husband Mark and their dog Millie traveled to Petersbough, N.H. this past weekend where Ellen competed in the Groom Olympics of New England. Ellen owns and runs Dog Gone Pretty, and prepared for weeks keeping Millie long so that she would be just right for the competition. Ellen did her best as she usually does with Millie and all her dogs, and won a silver medal for the Massachusetts Division. Congratulations Ellen and Millie, we are all proud of you.

While they were away I had their daughter Ella. We had a great weekend and it involved getting up at 5 a.m. on Sunday morning for the kids fishing derby at the Steamship dock in Oak Bluffs. It was dark when we started out, and this was my first kids derby, but Ella was the pro and showed me the ropes.

The dock was filled with kids, parents, grandparents, and derby members and coffee. Most of the kids were pros and knew what to do and I had the chance to watch them all as they caught everything from scup to eels. Even though it was an early day it was fun and it was great to see so many people out with their kids who were having a blast.

I hate to say it but we started pulling the Christmas decorations out at work this week. Yes, it is time to start the inventory of lights so we can start wrapping the thousands of lights that we display during Christmas in Edgartown. This year our “Evening of Enchantment” has a great theme but if we don’t start wrapping now we will never finish all that has to be done. Our joke around work is “Don’t stand still or you will be wrapped with white lights.” Hopefully you can come to the weekend; it is one of the best times in Edgartown.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
