Edgartown selectmen accepted the quarterly report of animal control officer Barbara Prada at a brief meeting Monday.

Ms. Prada reported a total of 208 separate calls for issues with dogs in June, July, and August. Dog bites accounted for 11 of those calls.

“A lot of them are just accidents,” Ms. Prada said. She spoke of one busy summer day when she had two dog bite calls within two hours.

“Both were labs, both were being walked by children,” Ms. Prada said. “The dog just pulled the leash out of a child’s hand. Come on people, you don’t let your child walk the dog alone.”

She also reported a dead Jack Russell terrier that washed up on a Chappaquiddick beach in September. Ms. Prada was unable to identify the owners. She said the dog most likely fell off a boat. The dog had been not been reported missing to local animal control officers

Animal control officers issued 27 warning tickets for leash law violations, and issues two citations for violating leash laws.

Also Monday, selectmen appointed Reade Milne as a temporary building inspector, for a period of 30 days, to cover time off for building inspector Leonard Jason Jr.
