The Lagoon Pond Drawbridge has been named one of the top 10 bridge projects of 2016 by Roads and Bridges magazine, according to a press release from the state Department of Transportation.

The $43.7 million drawbridge opened to traffic in November 2015. The 350-foot-long bascule bridge is opened and closed by a pivoting weight, and “was designed with significant attention given to traffic movement, marine safety, environmental considerations, and the natural landscape,” according to the press release.

The new bridge replaced a previous drawbridge built in 1935.
