Library Grants The Vineyard Haven Public Library has received a $10,000 grant for improvements to the children’s room and children’s programming. The grant will also fund creativity kits that can be borrowed by parents and caregivers or used in local preschools, the library said in a press release.
The grant was awarded through the Library Services and Technology Act from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The grant program is called Mind in the Making and supports innovative programming and spaces that encourage invention and allowing children under age six to explore simple concepts in tactile ways, which helps develop fine motor skills, problem solving abilities, and peer relationships.
Two other Vineyard libraries also received 2016 Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners grants this year. Oak Bluffs Public Library received $15,000 for a project working on serving people with disabilities, and the West Tisbury Public Library received $7,500 for a health literacy program.
