The Harvest moon certainly created very high tides across the Vineyard over the past week. There is a coolness in the air both day and night with temperatures dipping to the low 40s and blustery conditions all week. Yours truly is still without a home telephone after four months. Lightening struck the telephone sometime in June. However, the number trying to call my home appears on the television screen even though the new telephone is not rewired for use. While viewing several numbers on the screen on Tuesday evening, I realized it is a blessing. My new telephone will be activated on Nov. 9. Chilmark Chocolates re-opened on Oct. 27 and Mocha Motts in Oak Bluffs will re-open on Oct. 31. Other than Trick or Treating in Aquinnah on Halloween. the library festivities on Saturday, Oct. 29, are the only planned holiday event in town. There will be a Halloween party beginning at 1 p.m. with slime making, spider making and a costume parade, and of course candy.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Kristin Maloney, much admired children’s librarian at the Chilmark Library. Kristin was also the Chilmark School librarian, assisting our children from preschool to Grade 5. She was admired for kindness and patience with all the young ones. Kristin will be greatly missed in our up-Island community where she has been a quiet presence for years. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Chilmark Public Library.
