The cold weather has arrived. There are sweatshirts coming out of the closet, and long pants and the dreaded shoes. Yes the flip flops are under the bed, not far away, just in case. You never know.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. One more week and I might get that list.

There is a lot of talk about the stores putting up the Christmas decorations. I used to be one of them until I have been working in retail. It takes a long time to put the decorations up, but the retailers also spend a lot of money getting the articles and if you don’t put it up until after Thanksgiving, they only have three weeks to see the inventory, which if you think about it is not a long time, plus you would be surprised on how many people put up their tree Thanksgiving weekend. My own opinion is that we don’t want to think we have so little time to get ready and we have not followed through with our last year’s vows of being better prepared next year.

There will be a celebrity waiters spaghetti dinner to benefit PeaceQuilts, at the Federated Church parish house on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, $10 per child, or $35 per family. Dinner includes a salad, a spaghetti dinner, garlic bread, desert and a beverage.

Proceeds benefit the Haitian quilting co-ops started by PeaceQuilts, whose members travel to Haiti to train women how to make sewing projects financially supportive for them and their families.

From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, the Edgartown Library will hold its annual Halloween party. We’ll have treats, ghost stories, arts and crafts and more. Please join us, and we wish everyone a fun and safe holiday.

The Halloween celebration was originally scheduled for a different date. Look for the library November newsletter, coming soon to an inbox near you.

Please keep a lookout for the ghost and goblins in your neighborhood. They will be out and about soon. Have a safe Halloween.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
