The autumn air is still warm during the days but dipping into the 30s overnight. A little rain this week but good for the water table. Still a great display of foliage along North Road.

Tuesday, Nov. 8 is just a few days away. By now you have made your choices for the best candidates. Early voting has been brisk, as has requests for absentee ballots, according to Aquinnah town clerk Carolyn Feltz. The polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The tribal voting is coming on Nov. 20. Exercise your right to vote as democracy is not a spectator sport. As former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill always reminded us, all politics is local. Thinking it might be over Nov. 8 but then all the commentary will continue. So glad I do not watch television on a daily basis. See you at the polls!

At the Aquinnah Public Library this week, story time is at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, followed by kids craft: silly leaf hair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 8 after school club is at 4 p.m.

Daybreak at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services will host a soup and craft fair on Friday, Nov. 4 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Stop by for great food, wreath making, and more. There will be a raffle for a stepping stone. Stop by at the Woodland Shopping Centerm 457-B State Road in Vineyard Haven.

The First Baptist Church invites one and all to the annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner at the parish house on William street on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy a complete turkey dinner with turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pie and more. per person. Peter Temple would like to remind people that the second housing production plan workshop is Nov. 14, so save the date and plan ahead to attend. It’s at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall with a free community dinner at 6:30. People can participate even if they didn’t attend the first meeting. Susan Block reminds us that the Partnership for Health is looking for people from each town to become volunteer class leaders for My Life My Health. It was nice to see Thad Hyland in town this week for a visit with daughters Eleanor and Genevieve. Thad was here to close his Aquinnah home for the season before heading back to sunny California.

Noah James Manning and his mother Theresa returned home Sunday evening after spending the weekend in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. with their Kistner side of the family. Theresa’s brother Danny had flown in from California. In addition to a multigenerational brunch, Noah found time to head to the apple orchard for his annual visit.

Congratulations to Daniel and Nerissa Marshall on the birth of their second child, Gino Daniel Marshall, born at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Oct. 2. Gino was welcomed home by his six-year-old brother Rocco, as well as by his grandparents David and Alice Giles and Clara Ann Marshall.

Condolences to Stefanie Hecht in the death of her husband Steven George Roth. Steve passed away on Oct. 27 at their Aquinnah home with his Stefanie by his side. Services are private and a memorial gathering planned for a later date. Steve and Stefanie were frequently seen on their daily walk to the cliffs with collies Noodles and Digby.
