Oak Bluffs police officer Daniel Cassidy was promoted to the rank of sergeant at a promotional ceremony held Oct. 27 at the police station.

Town selectmen approved the promotion at their meeting Oct. 25. The promotional process includes a written examination, assessment, physical agility testing, and peer evaluation.

Sgt. Cassidy graduated from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in 1997 and later graduated from Westfield State University. He worked as a special police officer in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs starting in 2000, and attended the Weymouth Police Academy in 2003. He was hired as a full-time Oak Bluffs officer in 2005.

He is the department’s firearms and taser instructor and field training officer, and formerly served as the school resource officer at the high school.

Sgt. Cassidy lives in Edgartown with his wife, Rosie, and his stepson, Jordan.
