Island naturalist Gus Ben David will be the featured guest on Tuesday, Nov. 15 as the Gazette’s Tuesdays in the Newsroom series resumes.

The former longtime director of Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, Mr. Ben David ran his own World of Reptiles and Birds Park until 2013. Adept at handling wild animals, Mr. Ben David’s experience and passion has made him the Island’s go-to expert in the rescue and care of injured birds and orphaned creatures. His topic, “Island Wildlife: Myths and Misconceptions,” will explore among other things our propensity to assign human traits to other species.

Tuesdays in the Newsroom is the Gazette’s off-season discussion series in which the public is invited into the newsroom to hear and converse with newsmakers and about Island issues. Events are ordinarily held on the second Tuesday of each month, but November’s meeting was delayed a week because of the election. The event is free, but advance registration is required.

In surprise visits to the Gazette newsroom over the years, Mr. Ben David has been known to bring along his own guests, which have included reptiles, birds and small mammals.

Tuesdays in the Newsroom events run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with a brief reception.
