As the off-season deepens, the call of the wild often grows louder. This weekend both Polly Hill Arboretum and the Vineyard Conservation Society stand by to help you reconnect with your howling side through guided nature walks.

Polly Hill Arboretum will begin hosting winter walks on the second Saturday of every month from November through March. The first walk takes place on Saturday, Nov. 12, staring at 10 a.m. and lasting for a little over an hour. Meet at the visitor center.

The walk is included with the $5 garden admission, and is free for members and children under 12.

The Vineyard Conservation walk is Sunday, Nov. 13, with a visit to Flat Point Farm, located along Tisbury Great Pond. The property was saved from residential development just a few years ago through the combined efforts of the landowner, neighbors, the Land Bank and VCS. Come see what all the camaraderie was about. The walk begins at 1 p.m. and will include a tour of the farm studio to learn how goat’s milk soap is created.

To get to the property turn off West Tisbury/Edgartown Road onto New Lane. After 0.4 mi, just as New Lane bears to the left, turn down a dirt road all the way to the end. Look out for VCS signs and flags along the way.
