We are getting some much needed rain. We can take it and get the ground water up and help the drought situation and fill the ponds. Like my friend Jan Norton always said, when the ponds are full it is time for winter. So we will see.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week.
Special birthday wishes go out to my niece Tina Polleys as she celebrated her half century birthday on Nov. 27. Here is to many more special days.
I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. It seemed like a lot of people were here. I spent the day with my friends, or should I say my adopted family, (they adopted me!), Mark, Ellen and Ella Blodgett. We had a great day, and we were joined by Ellen’s Godmother Carol, and her companion John. Also joining us was Ellen’s grandmother, Louise Bernard, and her uncle Dennis, Sarah Cuthbert, and Mark’s parents from Redding, Ginny and Everett Blodgett.
I noticed my neighbors, Drew and Paula Smith, had their lights on, so they were here for Thanksgiving, celebrating two meals, one with Drew’s family, then the next with Paula’s family. It sounds like they had a great day and lots of food.
As much as people traveled to the Island, many left to go see family as Grace Conklin did. Grace and her four legged companion, Gunner, traveled to Maryland to visit her dad.
Without making this a sad story, I lost my four legged companion Harry two weeks ago. He became sick suddenly and I was off-Island getting ready for cataract surgery when Ellen called me to tell me Harry needed a vet right away. He came to enough that Mark bundled him up and he and Harry boarded the boat to Woods Hole where I met them, and took Harry to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialist in Bourne. I now call it the Mass General of the animal world. They are open 24 hours a day and when you walk in they treat you like you have been a patient of theirs all along.
The vet was wonderful and the vet tech was more than helpful. I felt very comfortable with everything they did and they explained the things that were going on and gave me many options. Unfortunately for me there was not a miracle cure and the end result would be the same no matter which way I went.
I wanted to write about them because I love my vet here on the Island but when there is something more that needs to be done we find ourselves going away. I wanted people to know that you have the same option for your pet as we do for ourself and that this hospital was a great one and you should not hesitate if you find yourself having to go there.
Keep next Friday on your calendar for Donaroma’s Evening of Enchantment from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is working hard to develop an enchanted forest. We are so lucky to have many talented people to do this creation. So try to come by on Dec. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. and enjoy some treats as well.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
