Don’t all kids hate vegetables? Apparently not the ones who learn to grow them. But you can ask them yourself on Tuesday, Dec. 13, when the Gazette’s monthly discussion series, Tuesdays in the Newsroom, will feature adults and children from Island Grown Schools talking about What I Learned in the (School) Garden.

A program of the Island Grown Initiative, Island Grown Schools now supports and maintains 16 pre-school and school gardens on Martha’s Vineyard, where kids get connected to nutrition and Island food sources from the ground up.

IGI executive director Rebecca Haag, Island Grown project leader Noli Taylor and several schoolchildren will be on hand to talk about the many benefits of bringing hands-on agriculture to Island kids.

And because not all good food is green, there will be cider and cookies and other snacks as well.

Tuesdays in the Newsroom is held on the second Tuesday of each month in the off season. Doors open with a reception at 5:15 p.m., followed by the program. The event is free, and kids are welcome, but advance registration is required. You can register at bit.ly/islandgrownlearning or by calling 508-627-4311.
