Chilmark is enjoying what, in today’s language, might be called a fake spring. But, fake or not, we are happy with warm temperatures and early flowers.

I believe that the fantastic production of Guys and Dolls presented by the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School students last weekend really waked us all up Island wide. It was so professional and delightful in all ways that people were literally dancing on their way out. Cheers to all who worked so hard to give us such a polished production. We are truly lucky to live on this Island.

School vacation for Martha’s Vineyard starts this weekend, Feb. 25 thru March 5. There are many programs scheduled for the Chilmark Library. Rizwan Malik, assistant director and youth services librarian has the following activities lined up beginning with a Mario Kart tournament at 2 p.m. on Feb. 28. There will be crafts offered all day on March 1 and 3 with activities ongoing. Many different board games and card games will be happening on March 2, all day. A movie matinee is scheduled for March 4 at 2 p.m. It will be a movie about pets and their secret lives. Please call Rizwan at 508-645-3360 if you have questions.

The Chilmark library will be offering a mobile photography workshop with Kim McCarthy for three weeks in March. The Friends of the Chilmark Library are sponsoring these workshops that will take place at the library on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. beginning with March 8. Kim is a professional photographer who will teach us how to take pictures with our cell phones and more. The series is free and open to all Island residents, pre teen to adult. The series is called Beyond Selfies: A Mobile Photography Workshop.

Bill Vincent with his daughter, Katie, and her husband, Nick Persons, and their daughters, Vivian and Natalie, all came to Chilmark to celebrate Nick’s 30th birthday. They all enjoyed the winter visit to their seasonal home, the Lucy Vincent house, on South Road. Cheers to Nick from us all.

Judy Jardin has been in town renewing her connections to family and friends. She now lives in Lewes, Del., near to her daughters and their families and she is newly retired. She tells me that one of the perks of her new home is being able to drive a short distance to see the Atlantic Ocean, a necessity for most of us who grew up here.

I am attempting some minor research about the connections between Roger Baldwin, Chilmark and the ACLU. If anyone out there can help me out please email me at the address at the top of the column. I have been accused of finding connections to everything that happens in North America to Chilmark and I am still trying.

Thomas Bena reminds us that Islanders can see his documentary One Big Home in Edgartown on March 5 and it is currently making the rounds in several California cities. Check him out online for specifics.

The Howes House Writers who usually meet at Howes House on Tuesdays each week will take a break and reconvene in May of 2017.

Please check out pathwaysmv.org for updates on what’s happening at the Tavern in Chilmark. It is a busy schedule with lots of interesting things happening in the arts. Check it out. Friday night there is a dance night.
