Several Vineyard teachers have received mini-grants for educational initiatives through The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank’s Charitable Foundation Trust.

Mini-grants were awarded to: regional high school teacher Leah Palmer for a Unicom system to help multilingual families and the school community; West Tisbury school teacher Lauren Serpa for a third-grade STEM program; West Tisbury school teacher Karl Nelson for animals for dissection; West Tisbury school teacher Dyan Demers for bird watching; and West Tisbury school teacher Kristine Cammorata for a CPR and first aid program.

A total of 86 awards were given last week at Cape Cod Community College. Since 2000 992 grants totalling about $375,000 have been awarded to teachers from the Cape and Islands and other areas in southeastern Massachusetts. The mini-grants help teachers offer educational programs that would not otherwise be available to their students.
