A free hunter safety course will be offered in April at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club in Edgartown.

The class is open to anyone over age 10, and is required for those purchasing a hunting license for the first time. The class also satisfies the state firearms safety class for those hoping to obtain a firearms identification card or license to carry firearms from local police. Jeff Day is the lead instructor.

Classes are scheduled for April 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. and April 8 and April 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students must attend all three days of the class to receive a certificate of completion.

Preregistration is required through the MassWildlife hunter education program at 508-389-7820. There is a 50-student limit.
