Buddy, our sweet Rottweiler, has had his name changed to Carl in hopes of enticing someone familiar with the book Good Dog Carl. This boy is only four years old and is a gentle giant who’s very handsome. He was rescued from a home where he was neglected, which has left his coat not looking as beautiful as it should, but with time and some attention it will return to its sleek blackness. If you’re looking for a big dog you couldn’t go wrong with Carl.

Tiger Lily, an affectionate lap cat. — Alison L. Mead

Is anyone from the vicinity of Lambert’s Cove Road near the Vineyard Haven/West Tisbury border missing a female black cat? She arrived at the shelter last Thursday and is still being assessed as to her temperament. Until we find out otherwise we’re calling her Licorice. Please contact the shelter if you think she may be your missing pet.

Our other black resident is a year-old tuxedo female named Mary. She has lovely golden eyes and a petite frame. Stop in and meet her and see if love blossoms. Mary’s roommate, Tiger Lily, is tabby and white and extremely affectionate. She loves to give kisses, and is one kitty that wants to be with you always. This girl is only five and would make a super family pet.

Another available female cat, Sweetie, is a two-year-old dilute calico spending her time in the kitty condo. She’s mostly gray with some pale orange markings on her face and chest that match her golden eyes. A little on the shy side, she enjoys petting and purrs and purrs. Once she finds her forever home she may turn into a lap cat. She’s a real mush.

If you prefer male cats there are two great boys residing here. Lefty is a large buff and white four to five year old who is an indoor/outdoor cat. He’s such a great guy that he has the run of the shelter, and greets visitors. Lefty has a buddy, Chaps, who is an 11-year-old with distinctive white and black markings who also has the run of the shelter. As an older gentleman he is happy to have a warm bed, a window to look out and some playtime outside. He isn’t a demanding fellow so would make a nice addition to any home.

Guinea pig Hamlette, aka Mr. Friendly, is brown and white, and under a year old. As with most guinea pigs he loves attention, especially to be held and pet. He’s not a big fan of fruit, but adores carrots and lettuce. If you have a child begging for a guinea pig you couldn’t do better than Hamlette.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
