It appears that March is going to be arriving like a lamb despite the rain. This past week has been filled with sunny weather and a few days hovering around 60 degrees. Sure sign of spring: over the town line in Chilmark, highway superintendent Keith Emin finally received his plow attached to the new 2017 Ford F250 red truck with a power tailgate — that will surely ward off any further snow for this winter.
Congratulations to my Vineyard Gazette cohorts for another amazing year of awards during the annual New England Newspaper awards in Boston over the weekend.

The West Tisbury School fifth grade will host a soup dinner and bingo night at the school on March 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. There will also be a raffle during the evening. Tickets will be $10 which includes soup and three games of bingo. The evening is for the benefit of their Shenandoah trip.
The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group’s Daffodil Time is coming. Daffodils will be sold ($10 per bunch) at the Edgartown Stop & Shop, Reliable Market, and Cronigs in Vineyard Haven starting at 9 a.m. and the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 17, while supplies last. Cancer is the leading cause of death on the Island and a diagnosis brings not only emotional and physical pain but often financial difficulty. All the money collected will be used to help patients and their families with medical expenses and the cost of transportation, lodging and food when they have to travel off Island for treatment. The cancer support group meets every Wednesday at noon in the library at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center.
