Our famous book store is on the move again. The Bunch of Grapes will be relocating on Main Street to the building that formerly housed Juliska. Back in the day it was Bramhall and Dunn. Dawn Braasch expects to close the store at its current location by end of next week and re-open by May 23. Will the Time to Read clock follow down the street? Inquiring minds want to know.
On Saturday, April 1, there is a rabies clinic in two locations: the Animal Shelter of MV from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the West Tisbury Fire Department from 10 a.m. to noon. Dogs must be leashed, and cats and ferrets crated. The cost is $20 per pet.
Grace Church has its Bingo Day and luncheon on Saturday in the Parish House on Woodlawn avenue. It won’t be long now before it is also lobster roll season at the church.
Also on April 1, our library presents another adult crafting program for ages 12 and up. Who doesn’t want to make shell jewelry? Be in the program room at 1 p.m. All are welcome.
After your daytime activities, do not forget the Fool’s Bash to benefit the Chilmark school. This auction will benefit the Chilmark PTO and school outings. The auction is silent and live. There will also be a photo booth, comedian Rafi Gonzalez, and, be still my heart, Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish. Beverages and desserts available for all. Come party.
I cannot help but mention how important Tuesday, March 28 was. My Patriots Fans Forever group was sure to point it out. Happy Patriots Comeback Day, they called it. Diehard Pats fans will understand the significance of 3rd quarter, 2:08 minutes. Still fun to watch the video. A very interesting map of Martha’s Vineyard appeared on my news feed, hand drawn by Alexander Graham Bell. He was on-Island in 1885 to study our deaf population. Any of you who have not read of this should be sure to research it.
As we move along to a very welcome spring I urge you to give a shout out to one of our fiercest devotees of the outdoor life. Mikey Waters is temporarily getting a problem dealt with at the hospital. He does not look like a happy camper to be in bed. This is the only picture I have ever seen of Mikey where he is not outdoors. Get well soon.
The birthday bandwagon pulls along Rachel Pires and Laura Alexander Friday; April 1 is for Enoia Dos Rei; April 2 shines on Kate Desrosiers, Bob Kalayan, Bo Andrews and Kathy Daly; April 3 is for Jim Reynolds and twins Chrissy and Charley McCarthy; On April 4 Amber Willoughby and Tine Sonderby age gracefully; April 5 is a party for Kinsman Maynard, Tripta Bahal, Dan Fleming, John Valley and Julian David Burghoff. And on April 6 Kelsey Forend-Healy, Nancy Shemeth and Ken Vanderlaske take the cake. Many happy returns.
