Caroline Sky lives in San Francisco but spends her summers on the Vineyard visiting her grandparents, John and Carolyn Connors, who live in Edgartown. On the Island, the 16 year old volunteers at Camp Jabberwocky, has taken the stage with David Crohan to raise money for Island Elderly Housing, and last year was a mentor at Alex’s Place during the Adrenaline Music Project.
Laurel Redington, assistant director of Alex’s Place, says Caroline is exactly the type of person parents would want their musically-inclined children to look up to.
“She’s a regular teenage girl with enormous talent and commitment to her craft,” said Ms. Redington.
Ms. Redington is not the only person to think so. Currently, Caroline is appearing on The Voice, the long running musical competition on NBC.
Last Monday she faced off against Stephanie Rice as they performed a duet of The First Cut Is the Deepest, written by Cat Stevens. Ms. Rice was chosen as the winner of that round and at first the journey seemed over for Caroline. But as per the rules of the show, she was allowed to be snapped up by a new mentor, Blake Shelton, and sing another day. She had been on Gwen Stefani’s team ever since singing Carole King’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow for her audition.
Watching Caroline on television, Ms. Redington called her a “bundle of adorableness.”
Her talent was definitely on display too. “That girl can sing anything,” Ms. Redington added.
Competition continues April 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
