There is still a slight chill in the air but most days have been filled with sunshine, with a touch of fog over the weekend. Osprey are returning to their nests. Cherry blossoms, dogwoods, and azaleas are in full bloom. Skunk cabbage is abundant along roadways.
Aquinnah Public Library this week will feature story time the usual days and times.
Martha’s Vineyard Museum docents Nancy Cabot, Bonnie George, and Linda Vasdaz will present Simple Tools to Celebrated Art: Weathervanes on Martha’s Vineyard on Monday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Up Island Council on Aging, the Howes House across from Alley’s. Congratulations to West Tisbury School students Brooks Carroll of Chilmark, Menasha Leport of Aquinnah, and Rachel Salop of West Tisbury, who participated in Project 351 Cradles to Crayons. They recently donated more than a dozen large bags of clothing and children’s items to the project for those in need.
Sincerest condolences to Susan Bettencourt and her sons Daniel, Timothy, and Gregory, extended family and friends in the loss of Peter Bettencourt this past week at his home in Edgartown. We enjoyed many gatherings while their sons were students at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Child Care Center and July 4th festivities for years. Peter will be greatly missed by many across the Vineyard.
Condolences to the family and friends of Allen Goorin M.D., who passed away on April 14. Services were held in Newton on April 18. Dr. Goorin and his family were seasonal residents in Aquinnah.
Susan Britt Leclair and her children Hannah and Cobe of Waterville, Maine visited with yours truly over the weekend. It was their first visit in about 10 years. They enjoyed a tour and a visit with Neal and Marilyn Maciel. We look forward to their return more frequently.
Joseph Vanderhoop Lee arrived home for a few days this week. He is presently completing his MFA degree at Columbia University.
John, Amy and Zach Macey were at their Aquinnah home over the weekend. Zach and Noah Manning were delighted to catch up with each other on their winter activities. On Saturday evening the Maceys enjoyed dinner at State Road Restaurant with Paul, Theresa, and Noah Manning. We look forward to their return in a few weeks.
Theresa, Noah, and yours truly enjoyed the annual Easter dinner at the home of Chris and Kendra Carroll and their daughters Oona and Emme. We were joined by Emmett and Kathie Carroll, Tim Carroll and Genc Brinja, and Ellen Biskis and her parents Bill and Judy as well as her children Tauras and Grizina. Dr. Bernard Levy was not able to attend but did send his daughter Sarah, her husband Gene and their sons Sam and Josh. After the Easter egg hunt we all enjoyed the illustrious Easter bunny cake!
Jenna Petersiel and her furry friend Marley were in town this past week, preparing for the opening of the Chilmark Tavern for another season.
Durwood and Jamie Sue Vanderhoop and their sons Sowunahsh, Kuhpay, and Matahquhs spent the Easter weekend in Rhode Island with her family, returning home on Monday.
Tobias Vanderhoop and his cousin Heidi Vanderhoop flew to Vancouver, British Columbia for a birthday celebration for Heidi. They were met in Vancouver by Tobias’s brother Thomas Fantasia and were all guests of Carrie Anne Vanderhoop and her daughter Rosalie Bellis.
Heath Widdiss was in Aquinnah over the weekend for a brief visit with his brothers Jason Widdiss and Sage Surner.
