Monsoon season! Did any of you take your dinghiess down to Five Corners and go rowing? I expect lush lawns and gardens this summer considering the amount of rain we have had. A sure sign of spring is the garden that is a flower bed, blooming on the Edgartown Road down at our Vineyard Haven end of it.
And in keeping with the crazy climate, remember to join us at Five Corners on Saturday, April 29 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. when we hold a march for science.
Another way we keep the planet clean and safe is the annual electronics disposal day sponsored by Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. This year’s will be on Saturday, May 20. I am giving you fair warning to collect your stuff. It will be at the Community Services campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Talk of adding a miscellaneous furniture collection to the electronic collection.
The Dukes conservation district is holding a talk on Saturday, May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall. The lecture will inform us of the importance of bees in gardening and farming.
Kristen Kauzlaskas and her friend, Sue Hallock, have relocated to Danbury, Conn. It is more in keeping with Sue’s new post at the Barnes and Noble in White Plains. Kristen was one of my favorite students at the Tisbury school. She was a beloved CNA at Windemere, which she calls Windy. After she moved from Tisbury, she spent some time on the Cape and then in Vermont. While Tisbury is always dear to her heart, her move has been eased by having many relatives in the area where she currently lives.
Those of us in my club, Patriots Fans Forever, are twiddling our thumbs until Sept. 7. The great news is the Pats schedule is out now.
The Martha’s Vineyard Partnership for Health is sponsoring, in conjunction with CEO, a recruitment and job fair on Saturday at the high school cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It seems to have happened so quickly. Pie in the Sky is up and open back in Woods Hole. Good luck to them. It seems like the quickest construction I have witnessed in these parts in the last 40 years.
Three of my girl cousins visited me Sunday and brought an adorable belated Easter basket as well as a bottle of wine. Thank you cousin Joanne Gardella and her sister Elise, and cousin Cathy Cucurullo. We had a lovely afternoon on Nonna’s front porch. Joanne has just returned from several months in Italy. Cathy Cucurullo is recently back from her sister’s in Florida. And Elise holds down the corner of Bleecker and 4th streets as an artist in Greenwich Village. Cathy baked her wonderful Italian cookies. There is nothing like cousins.
Belated birthday bouquets to Lorraine Clark and Sarah Codding.
April 28 shines on Ron Tolin, Jenna Corey and Paulo Roberto Oliveira; April 29 is for Stephen Dunham the Younger and Marci Nichols; April 30 honors Ronilton Oliveira and Andie Williamson; on May 1, Andie’s twin Ellie Williamson made her entrance to the world, along with Marina Natichioni, Megan Stiller, Kirsten Claussen, Mary Muckerheide, Lindsey Ben David and Barbara Murphy; and on May 4 Jonathan Spencer Norton takes the cake. Many happy returns.
