A note from the past: on July 23, 1946 the Grange held its annual summer bazaar at the Agricultural Hall and it was well attended. Among the many attractions were tables with fancy work, home-cooked food, and cold drinks. An orchestra composed of Antone King, his daughter Gloria, and sons Arthur and Antone Jr. provided music during the afternoon. Much interest was aroused in guessing the weight of a large fruit cake made by Anna Davis. The cake was won by John Raymond, son of Juliet Kraetzer of Chilmark. It was the second summer he won the cake. A two-pound box of Priscilla Hancock chocolates was won by Warren Armitage of Lambert’s Cove. A fortune telling booth was the most popular and knocking over milk bottles with a baseball was popular. Pony rides were given by Rosemarie Duys. Lillian Magnuson reported it was a very successful event for the Grange.

A trivia tidbit: 73 years ago Monday Arthur Godfrey began a lengthy stint as a morning disc jockey with his program on WCBS radio that was listened to by many Vineyarders every weekday. Have a great week.
