As peripatetic musicians, David Wax and his wife Suz Slezak, who form the core duo of the David Wax Museum, know a thing or two about being good guests. In fact, the eponymous track of their latest album, Guesthouse, contains a few assurances all guests might do well to keep in mind: “I won’t get in the way / I’ll be quiet as a mouse / No music after late.”

This weekend, the band will be guests on the Vineyard; good ones of course. The band returns to the Island for a show at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven on Saturday, May 20.

The last time the band played the Vineyard was in August of 2014 at Flatbread. Since then, they have released Guesthouse and A La Rumba Rumba, an EP. The Wax family has also grown. In April, their son Moses was born, joining their daughter Calliope, who is three and a half.

Mr. Wax said that the family’s upcoming three-week New England tour is “kind of easing back into touring.” The Cornell Theatre also fits the “new territory” the family is charting.

“Since we’re coming over as a duo, just playing a more stripped down thing, we thought it would be cool to find a different space that fit that.”

The show will be “a more intimate show that has a little bit more of a folk bent to it because it’s acoustic and we’re chatting more, and telling more stories,” Mr. Wax said. He added that there is a certain joy in touring as a family as it gives the traveling musician, the perpetual guest, some stability.

“For a lot of touring musicians, there’s such a dichotomy between their life at home and their life on the road, and for us there isn’t such a clear dichotomy. The family is all together as a family unit, and both pieces are integrated.”

The key, evidently, is meal time. “Making sure we’re all fed, so there’s no meltdowns... you’re doing a version with that too with the band, making sure everybody’s got what they need.”

The family looks forward to their return to the Island, which is one of their favorite tour spots, and hopes to squeeze in a visit to the beach, a first for their young son.

Doors open for the show at 6 p.m. Isaac Taylor opens for the band, beginning at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $20; day of the show $25. For tickets and more information, visit tpspresents.com.
