The shelter has a new resident. Her name is Holly and she’s a four-year-old gray and black tabby. So far she seems very sweet, but since she just arrived we haven’t been able to assess her true temperament yet.

Our one-year old mamma cat, Seven, has found her forever home. She will be able to move there in a couple of weeks once her three kittens have gone to their new homes and she has been spayed.

Our other resident is Chaps, our lobby cat. He’s about 12 years old, with striking white and black markings. He’s a mellow fellow who is comfortable around dogs and other cats, and just needs a cozy place to nap. And the longer he’s here, the more affectionate he becomes. Chaps lives here at the shelter, but if someone happens to form a special relationship with him we might be persuaded to let him leave.

And please mark your calendars for our annual garden party on June 26. The shelter is currently accepting jewelry donations for the sale that will take place at the party. Be it costume, precious gems or even broken or damaged pieces, please drop them off at the shelter during regular business hours.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539 or visit animalshelterofmv.org.
