We could use a little warmer weather this time of year as it has been in the 40s and 50s. Rain has prevailed for most of the past week. Nice to see the rhododendron in full bloom.

Aquinnah Public Library is looking forward to the summer with kids craft: cardboard collage on Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. Design your own collage using pre-painted cardboard. Tuesday, June 6 at 4 p.m. is after-school club.

Menemsha is busy with two news shops on Basin Road. Creekville, a wonderful antique store full of Island art (in Jane Slater’s former antique shop) celebrated a grand opening on May 27. Douglas Seward and his partner Susan Pacheco are there for their first season. And just down the road is Virginia Jones’ solo venture, Focs’le Locker with an exciting library full of mostly maritime books, Island-related (old, used, rare, and out of print), kids, beach reads, mysteries, and adventure stories. A unique variety of warm and gorgeous sweaters to see as well.

Eric and Cheryl Berke are pleased to announce that they just attended their son Aron’s graduation from Yale with two master’s degrees: an MBA and a master’s in public health. He will be moving to New York city to start a job in August. Their son Jeremy is now a reporter and associate editor at Business Insider in New York city. Best to all.

This month is a big birthday month at the FitzGerald/Carney house, 85 State Road. Sam Taylor is celebrating on June 2 and Allen Carney will party on June 9. Jake Carney will be visiting from San Francisco for his dad’s birthday.

Welcome to Roshawn Groce who has joined the Aquinnah Police Department for the summer. Roshawn recently graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy. He is from Eastham and has previously worked for the Provincetown Police Department. Chris Katilus has arrived for the summer. She was accompanied by her son George Jr. who just completed his freshman year at Tufts University. George Sr. is expected to arrive within the week. Colin, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, is at sea obtaining his time on the water.

John, Amy, and Zach Macey were at their Aquinnah home for the long weekend. They will return for their summer sojourn in a few weeks.

Congratulations and all the best to Ryan Rossi, son of West Tisbury Police Chief Daniel Rossi and his, wife Jane, upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard this week, attaining the rank of BM2. Ryan served for the past two years at Station Menemsha, less than 10 miles from his home. He has served for the past 10 years and traveled halfway around the world. For now he will take two weeks off to spend with his family including his wife Ellen and their daughter Sloane. After his brief respite, he will begin work at the shipyard.

Welcome home to Zack Smalley, son of Jay and Millicent. After working in Rhode Island as a welder for the past year and a half, he has decided to take a break for awhile from welding.

Joseph Spinelli and John McKinstrey returned to their home in Manhattan Thursday after spending the week visiting as many friends as possible. Many luncheon and dinner dates throughout the week.
