A 22-year-old Edgartown man was arraigned on drug charges last week after an investigation into a potential fatal overdose, according to police.

Aaron R. Bezahler was arraigned June 7 in Edgartown district court on conspiracy to violate drug law and distributing a class A drug (heroin).

According to a police report, Mr. Bezahler was arrested after a Martha's Vineyard Drug Task Force investigation into the late April death of a 27-year-old Vineyard Haven man. The police report said evidence found at the scene was consistent with a heroin overdose.

Police said that cell phone information, text messages, and an interview with Mr. Bezahler allegedly showed that he helped the man purchase heroin shortly before his death.

Mr. Bezahler was released on $1,000 surety. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for June 19.
