The film society in Vineyard Haven is presenting its annual Filmusic Festival beginning Thursday, June 22. It is a weekend of feature films and shorts that celebrate the convergence of music, culture and film.

The festival opens on Thursday night with a presentation of The Freshman, a silent movie made in 1925 and starring Harold Lloyd. But here’s the added bonus — audience members will be treated to a live score by the Berklee College of Music’s silent film orchestra. The twelve musicians will perform a new original score on the film center stage as the movie screens. Silence truly will be golden.

The Freshman screens at 7:30 p.m. and there is an opening reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., which includes live music, of course. The pianist David Hannon gets things rolling.

The Film Center is located at 79 Beach Road, Vineyard Haven.
