The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued five people 18 miles south of Noman’s Sunday after their boat caught on fire.

The Coast Guard said watchstanders at sector Southeastern received a call from the unnamed good Samaritan at about 10 a.m. reporting the 32-foot recreational boat Finale had caught fire. The people who were aboard had been rescued.

Station Menemsha launched its 47-foot motor lifeboat. When the crew arrived on scene the Finale had capsized. The five people were transported back to Woods Hole.

A commercial salvage company was dispatched to the scene to salvage the vessel.
