Buddy the rottweiler needs a special someone who is knowledgeable about large dogs and has the time and energy to work with this handsome fellow. He’s only four, but behaves like a six month old puppy. But he is very smart and responds well to training. This boy is a sweet, gentle giant that has the ability to become a super dog. Is there someone out there to give him that chance?
An angel came for our tabby cat Holly and a match was made. We wish them many years of happiness together.
Where are the guinea pig lovers? We are housing a mother and her four babies, two males and two females. Mama is light brown and white and one of her daughters is her spitting image. There are two black and white offspring, both are male and both have been adopted. And the female runt is calico and white. This family is desperately in need of socialization so even if you’re not in the market for one of these cuties, but are a guinea pig lover, please come by and visit them. They’re a very vocal group.
Our resident lobby cat is 12-year old Chaps. He’s mostly white with some black marking on his body and striking black markings on his face. He’s a wonderful, calm boy who does well with dogs, cats and people. All he needs to be content is a little affection and a comfy bed. Although he has a home here, if someone should fall in love with him we would be willing to let him go.
Now that summer is here the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. And please be mindful of how hot asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws in the summer heat.
Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539 or visit animalshelterofmv.org.
