Data collection buoys are being installed this month in areas south of the Vineyard that are slated for wind power development.

DONG Energy US Wind Power, which has leased ocean south of the Vineyard for wind turbines, is installing three buoys to record meteorological, environmental, and sea conditions in the area, according to a press release. The buoys are expected to stay on the site for two to four years.

Fishermen are asked to note buoy locations and maintain a safe distance during fishing.

Information gathered from the buoys will provide more information about the area and guide construction of wind farms.
