Edgartown selectmen have revoked the taxi license of Stagecoach taxi driver after he was charged with endangering a two-year-old child by allegedly driving the length of Main street with the child in his lap operating the vehicle, while recording it on his mobile phone.
The driver, Martin Janevski, is due in court August 2 to face charges of reckless endangerment of a child, negligent operation of a vehicle, driving a child without a car seat, and disorderly conduct.
At a hearing before selectmen Monday, police chief David Rossi read a letter from attorney Robert Moriarty, who represents Mr. Janevski.
“I am writing to inform you that he (Mr. Janevski) assents to the revocation of his taxicab licence,” Mr. Moriarty wrote, “and waives his right to contest said revocation at a public hearing.”
Mr. Janevski did not appear at the hearing. He cannot apply for reinstatement of the taxi license until May 1, 2018.
Also Monday, Carol Fligor took selectmen to task over last week’s meeting. Ms. Fligor was on the agenda for the July 17 meeting but did not appear to discuss her complaints about late night noise from bands at the Atlantic Fish and Chop House. A large contingent of Edgartown restaurant and club owners did attend the meeting in support of the Atlantic. Selectmen took no action in response to the noise complaint.
Ms. Fligor said she did not intend to sign up for the July 17 meeting, and did not know she was on the agenda. After watching a video recording of the meeting she told selectman Michael Donaroma she objected to the tone of the meeting.
“I was terribly hurt,” Ms. Fligor said, reading from a prepared statement. “Your handling of this matter made for hilarious laughter at my expense.”
Mr. Donaroma refuted Ms. Fligor’s account of the July 17 meeting, but offered an apology.
“I will personally apologize,” Mr, Donaroma said. “It wasn’t said in any kind of disrespect.”
