I'm still getting used to Island living. I actually walked on a beach for the first time in three years. Sand in my shoes. I am getting glimpses of some of my old friends, Melissa Norton Vincent, Chrissy McCarthy, Edna Koch, Michelle Parker and David Perzanowski. I still have not had my TV and internet connected, so how was I going to watch the Pats game? I like to stay local, and I have been trying to meet JB Blau, but his Copper Wok in our town is not a sports bar. So I crossed borders, all the way to Sharky’s in Edgartown, with my friend Tamma Cimeno for the game. Unfortunately, JB, who kept me so amused on Facebook while I was stuck in New York, was having a family day.

Meanwhile, my friends at Dunne’s Pub in White Plains were wondering if I would find anyplace to hang out as interesting as their gathering place. So I took pictures to send and reported to Jeff Petre I was at Sharky’s. He told one of our gang, Tony Keogh, who spends August on-Island here and the rest of the time lawyering in New York and stopping by Dunne’s. According to Jeff, Tony started laughing and said, “That’s the perfect dump for her!”

No offense, JB, from Tony that’s a compliment! And your fine establishments are being discussed in New York.

Lori Robinson Fisher has gotten our Islanders Talk club up to 10,000 members! What an achievement! We are suggesting all members donate a dollar in Lori’s name to the Islanders Talk benevolent fund to raise the kitty for Islanders in need.

Artist Basia Jaworska has an exhibit up at the MVTV building which will run until Oct. 30. The title is Lives on the Line: Activist, Dissidents, or Agitator? She is also showing portraits of legendary musicians. Check it out.

Saturday, Oct. 21 is Electronics Disposal Day at the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Disposals are properly taken care of and prices are very reasonable. All proceeds benefit MVCS.

The chill in the air signals our winter poetry cafes at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. Mark your calendars for our first on Thursday evening, Nov. 2nd at 7 p.m. The $10 admission allows you to enjoy the works of Fan Ogilvie, Clark Myers, Jennifer Smith-Turner, Christopher Legge and many other Island wordsmiths.

I can honestly say I hate Eversource. The fix is in somewhere and I am shocked our fairly natural community could not stop this.

Wonderful is the word I think of when I think of Judy Nichols. Wonderful husband, wonderful children, wonderful family, wonderful person. Judy passed on Monday morning. I shall never forget this true and loyal friend.

Get well wishes go out to Esther A.H. Hopkins, Mike Figueiredo, and Tony Keogh down at my other dump, Dunne’s Pub.

Deidre Lynch, Bonnie Jean Cotton and Lindsey Gonsalves celebrated a new year on Oct. 17. One of my favorite Bostonians and former students, Noel Macy, partied on Oct. 18. And on Oct. 27 Bobbie Jo Sears takes the cake. Many happy returns.
