Oak Bluffs police and Island schools are warning parents to take a close look at their children’s Halloween candy after an Oak Bluffs child found a prescription pill in her trick or treat pail.

According to the police department, an Oak Bluffs family found an orange pill in their child’s Halloween bucket after trick or treating Tuesday on Vineyard avenue, Shawmut avenue, Norris avenue and Franklin avenue in Oak Bluffs.

Oak Bluffs police are investigating the incident, which they said appeared to be an isolated event.

On Wednesday Vineyard schools superintendent Matthew D’Andrea sent a letter about the incident to parents of Island students. “We are asking that you take some additional time to sort through your child’s Halloween candy,” Mr. D’Andrea said.

Anyone who finds anything suspicious should contact their local police department.
