Felix Neck is hosting its 37th annual fall festival on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Think of it as Green Friday, you know the day you roll in the grass, paint your face, kick back on a hayride or cheer on some birds of prey. Leave Black Friday to those other folks, the ones waiting in line before dawn without even noticing the beauty of the moon, or throwing elbows, knees and hip checks in search of paradise by the techno light rather than learning how to talk to owls, lizards and little kids.

The festival is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 24 (raindate is Saturday, Nov. 25) and is the perfect place to walk off a bit of turkey belly and marvel at nature’s bounty. The site alone catches your breath, all those pristine acres on the edge of Sengekontacket. Add to that music by the Flying Elbows, a reptile and raptor show, kids crafts, baked goods, and soon enough you will be soaring.

The day actually begins earlier, at 9 a.m., with a guided bird walk led by Soo Whiting. New also this year is a bird call contest.

And for those who do demand a bit of shopping, the gift shop will be open and there will be raffle packages available too.

Admission is $6 for members, $9 for non-members and children under three are free.
