The Edgartown property tax rate will increase slightly in 2018.

On Monday town selectmen approved a single tax rate for all properties of $3.87 for every $1,000 worth of property.

Assessor Alan Gowell said the new rate is an increase of .32 cents, or nine per cent, over last year.

“We’ll still be a bargain,” Mr. Gowell said.

He said the total value of property in “our small, colonial New England town” is $8.2 billion.

In other business, selectmen approved the removal and replacement of two oaks at a home on South Water street, signed off on a contract for acting police chief Christopher Dolby, and said yes to a request from the Wharf Pub to close from Feb. 19 to March 15.
