First Lieut. Alicia Oliveira recently completed a grueling 15-day jungle warfare training in Hawaii. The soldiers were dropped into the rain forest by black hawk helicopters, where they learned to live in and navigate the tough terrain. The exercise was both physically and mentally challenging.

Out of 75 trainees, 33 completed and graduated. Alicia was the only female graduate.

Alicia is a member of the 25th infantry division stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu. An Island native, she is a 2011 graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, and 2014 graduate of Providence College.

Her proud parents are David and Margaret Oliveira of Oak Bluffs.
