Just how cold is it? Well, this has been a long week of freezing temperatures. Squibnocket Pond has frozen over, enough to walk across it and sled around. Schoolhouse Pond, now at the Aquinnah Public Library, has frozen enough for ice skating. Nashaquitsa Pond is frozen more than half-way across. But when the Cook Spring pipe freezes and ceases running near the herring creek, it is well beyond cold.
There is warmth in the Aquinnah Public Library. After skating across the Schoolhouse pond, stop in for a hot beverage, and then come back all week long for story hours and more.

My friend Skip Finley has been assisting the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School students with their work on WYOB radio 105.5 FM. They are in the process of developing creative ways to raise funds for operations and will be soliciting sponsorships for Black History Month in February when they salute 51 notable Vineyard African Americans. The station is also speaking with a local Jamaican church that wants to sponsor Jamaican Gospel music Sunday mornings. For information or to donate, visit wyob.org or call 646-234-4923.
