We are getting closer to spring! Temperatures in the 40s, a full day of rain, and now overcast sky signifying another light snowfall. Thoughts of the Blizzard of 78 are still fresh in our minds. Mounds of snow at that time and more than a day of snowfall was one of the most significant storms of that era. It seems so long ago yet the significance of it will be with us forever.
Celebrate Valentine’s at the Aquinnah Public Library with a party on Tuesday Feb. 13, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Make cards and enjoy chocolate tasting.
New Ag Society President Brian Athearn would like to invite those interested in forming a new 4-H Program on the Vineyard to meet at the Ag Hall on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. This will be an informational meeting for those who have questions or those who may wish to volunteer.
Isaac Taylor, Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen will perform a free concert at the West Tisbury Library on Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.
West Side Story will presented at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Performing Arts Center on Feb. 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15/$10 for students and seniors. The school productions are always a great adventure demonstrating the incredible talent of the high school students.
The West Tisbury Democratic Town Committee is meeting in caucus on Saturday, Feb. 17, to elect delegates and alternates to the Democratic State Convention. Any resident of West Tisbury who is a registered Democrat is eligible to attend, participate, and to vote for delegates/alternates — including for yourself. The meeting will be held at the Howes House, located on State Road opposite Alley’s General Store, in the center of West Tisbury. Doors open at 9:30; the official caucus meeting will begin promptly at 10 a.m.
Congratulations and all the best to Adam R. Smith who achieved the rank of Boatswain’s Mate First Class, receiving the great news on Feb. 2. Adam has been stationed at United States Coast Guard Station Menemsha for the past three and a half years. He and his wife Meghan and their four-month-old daughter Elliana will most likely transfer to a warmer clime as of July 1. In the meantime, they are all excited that the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl as they are still Pennsylvania people at heart.
