I did not realize Martha’s Vineyard had a monsoon season. We have been hit with a lot of cold, unforgiving rain for days now. I can hear Stevie Ray Vaughan singing “the sky is crying” everytime I open my back door. The amount of sickness is stultifying. I wish you all the quickest recovery and many, many sunny days ahead.

Lorraine Wells sent me interesting information about Tisbury Watercourses, Inc. This educational group is offering a new scholarship for a Vineyard resident. Your major must be in an environmental area. You must be a junior or senior in college or in graduate school. Details are on the MVRHS Guidance Dept. site. The deadline is March 31. Good luck.

In addition to the winter Olympics and the much anticipated school vacation the week of Feb. 26, our library is offering its usual energetic and eclectic events. The monthly mini booksale will be Saturday, Feb. 17, and on Tuesday Feb. 20 at 7 p.m., author Don Nelson will explore his new book with you, Chappaquiddick Tragedy.

Our MVCS also keeps pace with great programming. I wish I had been able to use this program: the caregivers support group meets on the first and third Thursday of every month from 10:30 a.m. till noon. This forum helps you to meet, connect, meditate, and discuss the many challenges of your service. And it is a service, and you need to take care of yourselves. Meetings are in Building C, conference room 1. Call 508-693-7900, ext. 217 for more information.

Condolences to his large family and many friends on the death of Buddy Allen. What a great man to know and speak to almost daily down at Cumby’s. He was always enthusiastic in discussing his lovely yard and flowers.

Condolences go out to Jack O’Callaghan on the passing of his mother, Lorraine. Be sure to see her beautiful picture and read her many accomplishments. That woman left no stone unturned.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Sweet Sabrina Leuning on Feb. 11. Sandy Pratt celebrated along with Honest Abe. Linda O’Leary had her birthday on Valentine’s Day, always flowers and chocolates for her. Mary Lee Waldron parties on Feb. 16. And on Feb. 18 Charlotte Strople takes the cake. Many happy returns.
