Do tell us of the wonders you have seen. The warm sandy beaches you have walked. The mountains you have been carried up in order to ski down. The roads you have driven. You have an audience here. We all want to hear your stories, see your pictures, live a moment in your shoes. I’m calling you out folks, do tell your tales.
Pam Goff shares that pizza nights will be back on the agenda at the Chilmark Church starting Tuesday, March 13. With February vacation in full swing, the town of Chilmark is sparsely populated so be sure to put a slice of pizza on your calendar for when you return. If you are new to the deal, give Julie Flanders a heads up if you plan to attend. A ballpark head count for the pizza queen is always helpful. The start time is 6 p.m.; be sure to cover your head with your thinking cap and be prepared for those Bananagrams tiles to get dumped out on the table.
The Chilmark School PTO, including key players like Beth Wike, Susie Anderson, Ellen Biskis, Kendra Buresch, Meg Athearn, Hillary Noyes-Keene, Meg Higgins, Rebekah Thomson and Sarah Waldman, is gearing up for one of the most enjoyable evenings of the year. Chase away those winter blues and start thinking spring at the annual PTO fundraiser at the CCC. From 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, you’ll find a lively group of folks — it’s a 21 and over event — bidding on auction items, dancing to the groove of Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish, enjoying drinks and sweets, giggling and laughing in the photo booth and more. For $25 you can gain entry at the door or buy a ticket in advance from any school parent. Contact Beth at bethwike@gmail.com if you’d like to make a contribution.
I was there to witness Ellen Biskis performed in front of a standing room-only crowd at The Ritz a few Saturdays ago. With the musical accompaniment of her husband Tauras, and Don Groover she belted out some fabulous tunes and had a huge cheering section which included Patty Egan, Steve Masterson, Shannon Carbon, Chris Carroll, Kendra Buresch, Meg and Dan Athearn, Amanda Dickinson, Dilly DeBlase, Irene Tewskbury, Hillary and John Keene, Jim Feiner, Deb Dunn and so very many more. I can’t wait for the next time. Ellen, when will this be?
Malia (Scott), Chris, Eva, Theo and Quinn Stanley of Boston and Chilmark travelled to Vermont last week to enjoy some quality family time with Malia’s folks, Jon and Marie (Fischer) and sister Andrea and her family. Andrea’s kiddos, Rupert and Rosa, kept the whole gang skiing, sledding and laughing. The warm-ish air we’ve had recently will surely entice Jon and Marie to their South Road home in no time.
I somehow failed to mention that a noteworthy town resident celebrated a birthday a short while back. On Feb. 15 Jane Neumann Slater celebrated her 86th which, according to Jane, is the new 45.
The Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust has lined up the Fishing Partnership to come to the Vineyard for two great training sessions. If you are a fisherman, boater, or work on the water, please consider attending the CPR/First Aid certification course geared towards offshore situations for fishermen and their families. It will be held at the Tisbury Fire/EMS building on Marsh 13. A safety-at-sea course will be offered at the Coast Guard Boathouse March 22-23 and will cover survival suit procedures, life raft equipment, helicopter hoist operations, CPR and more. Last year’s training was well attended and a huge success. You can register through the fishingpartnership.org website or by calling Morgan Eldredge at 508-237-9402 or Shannon Eldredge at 508-958-6580.
