How about that baseball game Tuesday night? My friends in New York are reeling. Great way to start the season. Go Sox.
We all knew, love and miss Tony Lombardi. This week Ernie Boch stopped off at Alex’s Place, the club for teens Tony directed at the YMCA, and donated a generous check in Tony’s honor. While there Ernie noticed there was only one electric guitar hung up ready for practice. Ernie will be sending over a few more electric guitars. What a wonderful donation.
Following the morning service at the Federated Church on Sunday, guest speaker Michele Dupon will tell us the whole story behind Meals on Wheels. As more of us hope to age gracefully at home there might be questions you have. This is also an opportunity to volunteer.
The Wampanoag celebration of the new year at town hall in Aquinnah last Sunday was well- attended and entertaining. Thank you to all who donated prizes for the raffle. Thank you to all the artists who contributed to making town hall look so good. The Black Brook Singers celebrated with song and dance. Aquinnah is always the last town on Island to show signs of spring. So let the season begin.
My young neighbor, Shane True, worked with his classmates on starting Safe Sea MV. The kids are concerned about the environment and who can blame them? I was unable to attend town meeting last night, but Shane was scheduled to speak. I hope you were there and saw how well he spoke. A current and future activist, what could be better?
My friend Kristen M. Jenkinson was shaken up but okay. Kristen was in the coffee shop in Edgartown last weekend when the car drove in. For a while after she continued to smell coffee and rubber tires. We wish the best to everyone involved.
In honor of Patriots Day and spring break next week, Mike Sawyer of Barn, Bowl and Bistro is offering free bowling for kids 12 and under between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. I have a feeling it will be noisy there next week.
Condolences to Kathryn Hughes Magistriani and her family in the passing of their beloved companion, Bentley. Bentley was actually a super dog for all his small stature. Born on Sept. 11, 2001, he amused and loved and played with his humans till April 9 this week. Sixteen-plus years was a magic Bentley gift to all.
Jemma Edelbach celebrated her first six months on April 9. Parents Lyrae Littlefield and Dan Edelbach could not be more proud. Lyrae’s mom, Rosemary, has gone to New Jersey to help out. We hope Lyrae and Dan will bring Jemma and visit us this summer.
The celebration of life for Mat Hubert at the VFW last Sunday was perfect. Certainly a bittersweet experience. Mat’s girlfriend, Cherri, hugged, greeted and thanked all. Deejay Steve kept the music going as Mat would have wanted. Friends brought favorite recipes and shared great food. Kayla Darcy had printed out many fabulous photos of Mat through all his years. We shall miss him dearly. But he would want us to keep on truckin’.
The birthday bandwagon pulled along Wyatt Nolan McCarthy on April 11 when he turned 10. Max Jasny welcomed another year on April 12. And Eleanor Hebert takes the cake on April 19. Many happy returns.
