Spring is in the air in Aquinnah at long last and skunk cabbage is in the air as well. Temperatures have gone from the 30s to the 50s. On Tuesday morning there was ground fog and the meadows were gently blanketed with frost. The sunrise was beautiful on the way to the ferry at 5:30 a.m.

The Federated Church in Edgartown will host a celebrity waiters dinner on April 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening benefits the Haiti Peace Quilts Project. For more information call 508-627-4421.

MVY Radio is happy to partner once again with Club Passim in Harvard Square, this time to bring two talented Martha’s Vineyard musicians to Cambridge. On Sunday, May 6, Willy Mason and Isaac Taylor will perform at Club Passim. Doors open at 6 p.m. with music at 7 p.m.

Chilmark School will have their traditional May Day celebration on Tuesday, May 1. The fourth and fifth graders have learned a version of an authentic May Dance with Jesse Keller Jason from the Yard. Join in at 9 a.m. in the front of the school to celebrate the coming of spring.

The Neighborhood Convention meets at 11 a.m. on May 1 at Saint Augustine’s Catholic Church on Franklin street in Tisbury. The speaker will be Kevin Ryan, artistic director of Island Theatre Workshop.

The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard is sponsoring an Aquinnah voter forum prior to the local election. The public is invited to attend and listen to their candidates as they present their positions and to ask questions. There are contested races for board of selectmen this year, and there should be some lively discussions. The forum will be held at the Aquinnah Old Town Hall on Saturday, May 5 at 3 p.m. The league is a non-partisan political organization that promotes active and informed citizen participation in government, in voting, and in influencing public policy through education and advocacy.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Albert E. Rose on April 29 as he shares the day with Kylee Darcy, my youngest great grandchild who will be four years old. Richard Rose will party on April 30. Jim Wallen celebrates on May 2 at his East Pasture home. Betsy Feil Vanlandingham will celebrate on May 3 as will Av Morrow.
