Aquinnah is blossoming, temperatures reaching the 70s, shad bushes are in full bloom, as are the rosa rugosa. A few hearty souls have already been swimming.

Hope Strikes for Chris on Saturday, June 2 from noon to 6 p.m. at Barn, Bowl, and Bistro in Oak Bluffs. This is a fundraiser for Christopher Laursen who is presently undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. It will be a fun afternoon that has been planned by Mike Sawyer and many friends of Chris. Enjoy bowling for $50, dine to donate, $1 oysters, gift certificates, and a silent auction.

Martha’s Vineyard Community Services and Bruno’s will host an Electronic Disposal Day on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MVCS campus next door to YMCA. Dispose of your old computers, TVs, appliances, telephones, scrap metal and more.

The Neighborhood Convention will meet on Tuesday, June 5 at 11 a.m. at the Chilmark Church — the Yard dancers will perform.

Congratulations to Chris Baer. His book Martha’s Vineyard Tales will be on the shelves at Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in time for a book signing this weekend. Thank you Chris for my autographed copy two weeks ago. Best of luck!

Eric and Sheryl Berke were at their Aquinnah home over the weekend, to return in a couple of weeks for the summer. Their sons Aron and Jeremy are both working in Manhattan and will join their parents often over the summer.

Gary and Lisa Foster have arrived to spend the summer at their East Pasture home.

Across the channel at USCG Station Menemsha, best of luck to BM3 Nicholas Gonsalves as he heads to A school with a goal of becoming an MK3. Nicholas was born on the Vineyard and is a descendant of numerous families going back many generations. He is the son of Sonya Silva and the late Anthony Gonsalves. While Nick is in A school, his wife Kayla Cataloni and their daughter Adalynn will reside on the Cape with her family.

Welcome to BM3 Justus Christopher who has arrived from Baton Rouge, La. He awaits the arrival of his family who will join him over the summer.
