May has been a good month. Miguel the Portuguese water dog has found the perfect forever home, and kitty Winter has gone home with her special person.

June has arrived bringing to mind weddings and proms. If you would like to own your own tuxedo, we’re having a special this month. And they even come in both sexes. Chloe is 10 and has the least white of the three. As our newest resident she is still adjusting to her new situation. Mr. Kitty is only eight and sweet, sweet, sweet. This one is a keeper. And Nesta is about 14 with classic tuxedo markings. He loves attention. Come on in, this is a real bargain for your own tuxedo.

The two litters of kittens and their mothers are all doing well. Tess’s kittens are ready to go to their new homes. Molly is the other mom, a tabby and white with striking amber eyes. She is sweet, adores attention and would make an awesome family pet. Her four kittens still need a few weeks before they will be ready for forever homes.

Mr. Kitty is playful and affectionate. — Sara Brown

Speaking of kittens, Wilma, the stunning medium-haired black cat with the orange/gold eyes, had a litter of four kittens on Sunday, three black and one tuxedo. Wilma is a doll, purrs all the time and seeks out attention. She prefers not to be held, opting to sit beside you while purring like mad, and maybe she’ll spend a little time in your lap if you’re lucky. She’s another one that will make a wonderful family pet. She will be available to go a forever home once her kittens have been weaned and she’s been spayed.

Holly, the five year-old tabby is now residing in the kitty condo where she’s more comfortable. Holly can be somewhat standoffish and likes to set her own boundaries and rules so will need an understanding owner who won’t push her buttons. Is there an angel out there for Holly, someone who can find it their heart to give this girl a home?

The shelter has a few events coming up. Saturday, June 2, please join us for the Celebration of Pets. It takes place on the porch of the Harbor View Hotel, where Fr. Nagle will be blessing the animals beginning at 11 a.m. If you would like to take part please arrive around 10:30 a.m. The next nail clinic at the shelter will be held on June 16 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Suggested donation is $15. And don’t forget to get your tickets for our annual garden party on June 25. Tickets are available at the shelter. We are also looking for jewelry donations for the jewelry sale at the party. They can be dropped off at the shelter during regular hours.

We also are in need of adult volunteers to answer the phone and meet and greet people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. If interested give us a call or stop by. And if anyone needs crates or dog food, please stop in to pick some up. We have an abundance of both and are happy to share.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations.
