Aquinnah has been in the 50s most of the week with fog and rain on most days. Rhododendrons are gorgeous in full bloom, as are the beach plum bushes. Striped bass are in but the squid are yet to appear.

Carolyn Feltz would like to announce that Philbin Beach will be open, requiring permits, on Friday, June 15. Philbin Beach and resident parking permits will be available June 2 to June 14, every day except Wednesday, from 1 to 4 p.m. at town hall. This year you may print and complete the application(s) and mail them in with a check, payable to the Town of Aquinnah. If you have any questions, please call Carolyn at 508-662-7337.

ACE-MV will be hosting their first annual fundraiser while celebrating 10 years, on June 23 at the West Chop Club from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 and are available at ticketsmv.com/ace.

All the best to Ellen Reynolds, our up-Island council on aging outreach coordinator, who will retire this year after serving the needs of up Island elders for more than two decades. Her last day in the office will be June 15 so please stop in and wish her well. There will be a party in Ellen’s honor on July 13 at the Howes House. In the meantime, one will find Ellen looking for shells, especially quahog shells, as well as selling her photographic work at a flea market or two.

Dr. Laura Goorin and Darren Critz of Brooklyn were married on May 27 at the Goorin home on State Road. Dr. Barbara Okun of Old Lantern Lane officiated. They will reside in Brooklyn with their 11-year-old daughter, Regan. Laura is a clinical psychologist in Manhattan and Darren is the artistic director of Symphony Space on the upper west side.

Eric and Bobbie Malkin arrived on Sunday for a two-week stay at his aunt Hannah Malkin’s home on Lighthouse Road. Once again, they await the sun and warmth before their stay ends.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Charity Randolph who passed away in Iowa on May 27. Charity was an elder of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). Charity was a retired science teacher and offered her expertise by serving on the tribal education committee for many years. She was always supportive of students in their decisions about college and their career paths, offering guidance to those who needed assistance. She is survived by her sister Arenda (Bunny) Maxwell of Iowa and her family as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Her cremains will be buried at the Randolph family plot in Oak Bluffs later this summer. She will be greatly missed.
